New Left Release
New Left denounces the actions of the far-right Israeli minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, who- in a new video inside the Negev prison that demonstrates the arrests of the activists of the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian fleet after their kidnapping in international waters- continues to call the detainees “terrorists”.
He cynically declares: “As I have already promised, those who participated in the flotilla and supported terrorism are receiving the same treatment as terrorists in the Negev prison”, demonstrating the miserable conditions of their detention.
The president of the New Left, Alexis Charitsis, in another contact with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Gerapetritis, conveyed his strong protest both on the overall extremely risky situation and the specific events, repeating what he had already stated on what the government should do: a diplomatic demarche towards Israel, demanding the immediate and safe return of Greek citizens to our country.
The silence- let alone the servile attitude- of the Greek government is equivalent to complicity, as instead of defending the rights of its citizens, it adopts the Tel Aviv line.
Mr. Mitsotakis chooses the “strategic alliance” with a far-right and genocidal government, indifferent to the humiliation of Greek citizens. Their protection, however, is a non-negotiable obligation of the Greek state, not just an option at the whim of anyone.
New Democracy has chosen the path of shame, turning Greece into a pariah state inside the EU. New Left demands immediate sanctions against Israel and the cessation of all strategic relations between the two states.
