New Democracy’s authoritarianism targets  elementary school children

Once again, New Democracy  shows its authoritarian face. This time is against teachers, parents and elementary school children.

During today’s teachers’ strike outside the Athens Primary Education Directorate , the unthinkable happened: the police attacked without any provocation, throwing chemicals at elementary school students, their parents and teachers.

Whenever  the government does not intend to hire school teachers, the  police takes intimidating action.

In the middle of the academic year, instead of filling educational gaps, the secretary of education opts  for   classroom merging, increases the number of students per class and throws children out of the all day school schedules.

If Mr. Mitsotakis’ notion of  “security”, includes  terrorizing teachers and children,  let him come out and speak up clearly about it.

It is common knowledge, after all: his government is allergic to anyone and everything that resists the anti-social policies he is trying to impose.

The New Left stands by teachers, students and parents.

We demand:

  • police forces to be immediately withdrawn from the Primary Education Directorate,
  • School  merging to be stopped,
  • all   gaps to be filled.
