New Left release on the anniversary of October 28

October 28 is not just another ordinary historic anniversary, but a reminder
that people are the creators of major historic events, whenever they defend
their dignity, their freedom, their homeland against fascism, authoritarianism
and subjugation.
This is a day of remembrance and responsibility – towards generations that
resisted, but also towards new generations that are living once more in a
world of wars, inequalities and democratic decline.
Greece in the 1940s said “No” to fascism. Today, our duty is to say “No” to
all its forms, to far-right rhetoric, to authoritarianism, to racist violence, to the
devaluation of human life.
New Left honors those who resisted the Occupation, the fighters of the EAM
Resistance, those who sacrificed their lives for Greece, Europe, another
world of freedom and justice.
Today, as we plunge back into the logic of war that prioritizes armament, the
root sense of October 28th remains:
resist fear and oblivion,
defend peace,
fight for a society of justice, equality and freedom.
