We regret to be spoiling the governmental festive narrative on “national success”, but the election of Mr. Pierrakakis to the Eurogroup Presidency is not a triumph of our country, but a victory of the most bellicose voices in the EU, voices of those promoting militarization of economic policies and expansion of the defense industry, instead of a serious European effort for peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian issue.
It is definitely not a success for Greece to become a complement to the most conservative forces of the European Union.
The government’s celebratory excesses must not lead the country further on into the hurricane’s eye,just in the name of personal ambitions.
New Left will continue to defend peace, democracy and a Europe that does not surrender to war hysteria.
