During the discussion on the elaboration and examination of the draft bill of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum “Reform of the framework and procedures for the return of third-country nationals – Other regulations of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum”, the New Left MP Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, denounced that the bill creates “concentration camps in the 21st century”, turning the country into “a huge prison of human souls” and paving the way for the far right to demand even more anti- immigrant violence.
Mr. Tzanakopoulos noted that nationalists and racists are trying to convince society that refugees and immigrants are “altering our culture,” but, as he emphasized, there is no “common value” that connects the social majority with those who support genocides, vandalize works of art, or murder people such as antifa activist Pavlos Fyssas and LGBTQ+ activist Jacques Kostopoulos.
He also emphasized that, since countries of origin do not accept the refugees and immigrants returns, the far right is increasingly inclined towards inhumane solutions. “How much blood will be enough to satisfy you?” he characteristically asked.
